Letter: Wave of Nessies

I REFER to the photograph taken by William Jobes published as yet another "sighting" of the Loch Ness "monster" (your report, 23 July).

The dark object so interpreted is simply the shadowed underside of a breaking wave. Similar but smaller and lesser shadows are evident in more distant waves in the picture, not to mention the long, small waves in the foreground.

A similar explanation has been offered in the case of previous "sightings of the monster".

The Scotsman really should not promote this kind of nonsense except in a "fun page", or was that the intention anyway?
