Letter: Violence at home

I THOUGHT I had misread your report (25 January), which said that police were called to more than 4,000 incidents of domestic violence in the first half of the festive period alone.

What is wrong with us, that this is so much a part of our culture? My friend recently bruised her face falling on the ice (I saw it happen), and said that nobody at her work asked her what had happened because they must have assumed her husband had hit her and they did not want to appear nosy. How sad.
