Letter: Tunnock's strike

I refer to the sad and rather forlorn picture of striking staff at Tunnock's Uddingston factory (your report, 29 September).

Tunnock's is one of the few independent biscuit companies in the UK.

How sad then that the staff have become embroiled in a pay dispute with the company at a time when so many other workers in Scotland are being made redundant.

Tunnock's, a family-owned business dating from the 1890s, is one of Scotland's best-known brands and world renowned for its caramel biscuits, snowballs and tea cakes.

With the Unite union being involved, we can only hope that this dispute is not as protracted as that of BA, otherwise it may lead to the demise of yet another famous Scottish institution.
