Letter: Transport hub

YOUR correspondent (Letters, 8 August) is quite correct: there should be a rail connection to Edinburgh Airport, perhaps partially funded privately.

An extensive shopping centre with restaurants and also a hotel would help the funding and create income. There need be only one tunnel under the runway and the platforms should be at ground level.

All trains from all parts of Scotland would use it as well as those from Newcastle and Preston making it a transport hub. This would bring Edinburgh into line with most capitals in the world.
