Letter: The jury's out…

ANENT Gerry Hassan's article (Perspective, 6 August) on the proposed People's Jury to challenge the "feral elite" who run Britain, advocated by some "liberal-minded intelligentsia" such as Polly Toynbee, Helena Kennedy and Greg Dyke: who would appoint or elect the 1,000-strong "randomly-selected" body to ensure it reflected the population accurately?

Is that not what our democratically-elected parliament is supposed to be (however, it may recently have failed in that task)? Do these three members of our elite nomenclatura not realise that it is they and their ilk who have been running Britain since about the mid-1960s?
