Letter: Tax-free prizes

Are you aware of Edinburgh Council's scheme to allow five lucky winners their council tax free for one year simply because they sign up for paying by direct debit? I find this incredulous, but there it is on the council's website.

If the council is struggling for cash then surely not collecting thousands of pounds from those lucky five is a bit off?

I object to the council turning this local government tax into a competition and am writing to my local councillor to ask for further details and an explanation.
