Letter: Supply teachers

I was so glad to read the letter from John Dennis (7 April), especially from a prominent member of the Educational Institute of Scotland. At least I now feel that there is somebody standing up for us supply teachers, without whom many schools would be in a difficult position.

Cosla president Pat Wattershas said the proposals for supply teachers were aimed at those who returned to the profession after retiring! Why? We're not taking jobs away from anyone. In rural areas such as ours they often have difficulty attracting applicants for permanent jobs, never mind for supply. I am incensed and disgusted at what is basically an attack on us.
