Letter: Stitched up

Following on from your article "Having a ball" (Magazine, 29 May), isn't it time sewing machines were brought back out? I made an excellent facsimile of a top American designer dress copied from a photo for my daughter's prom. It cost £60 and there was no danger anyone else had anything like it as it was unlikely Portia de Rossi would attend the prom.
