Letter: State of mind

Andrew H N Gray (Letters, 21 September) claims that "forces of atheism have been wreaking havoc in the former Soviet Union, China, Indo-China and many more countries since the early 20th century".

In fact, the havoc was wreaked by the forces of communism - an irrational belief in an omnipotent state, as opposed to an omnipotent God. The antidote to a belief in an omnipotent God or an omnipotent state is to reject a morality of faith and sacrifice and replace it with a philosophy of reason and freedom.
