Letter: Souter 'disgust'

I WAS disgusted to read about Brian Souter being awarded a knighthood (your report, 11 June). Let's not forget this is a man who ran one of the most vile, homophobic campaigns in living memory (Keep The Clause).

During his campaign, violence towards LGBT people in Scotland increased and an atmosphere of fear increased amongst an already victimised group in society. I thought we were supposed to live in a tolerant country. How can a man such as this be awarded such a high honour? It is a slap in the face to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their straight friends who support equality. No wonder the online petition against this has already gathered more than 2,500 signatures.
