Letter: Sound of fury

Your heading “Hy dudgeon” to a letter referring to the Hyundai factory was clever, but ignored the fact that in Romanised transcriptions of Japanese words the letter Y invariably has a consonant value.

Hyundai is pronounced with the same initial sound sequence as “human”. It’s bad enough hearing Toyota pronounced as if a toy ota were the same kind of thing as a toy soldier, but “High-undai” – spare us.
