Letter: Soft pedalling

It is frustrating watching drivers flounder in the snow, but they are more ignorant than stupid. I want to tell them that rather than rev the engine when starting they should try second gear with light acceleration; and to make sure, when climbing a hill, they can reach the top so that they don't have to stop half way up.

The BBC could help by commissioning a programme devoted to safe driving. In it they could demonstrate how smooth, early and gradual use of the accelerator, brake and steering will eliminate virtually all skids.
