Letter: Set an example

Considering the cost of running Holyrood and the part-time nature of the Scottish Parliament, the very thin and insignificant legislation programme for the remaining term before the May 2011 elections is a matter of concern.

Some thought should be given to reducing the number of MSPs and also to abort the "list" MSPs who enter parliament through the back door without a single electoral vote, and yet enjoy the same generous salary and expense regime.

If savings are to be made in Scotland then it should start with our parliament setting an example of taking a share of the pain in a manner that will be endured by their constituents.
