Letter: Services at risk

OUR elected Fife councillors have many difficult decisions to make in deciding how council taxpayers and the general population are provided with services.

A massive overall budget reduction imposed by the Scottish Government means that these councillors have an even greater task ahead. It is with great concern, therefore, that the target for these "savings" appears to be concentrated on front-line services.

The latest service which appears at risk is the provision of care homes for our elderly.

I am convinced there must be money spent wastefully in departments that have questionable value to the common man or woman; staff employed in non-essential roles; too many highly paid managers; and too many managers of managers.

Does the current ruling coalition of Scottish National Party and Liberal Democrats in Fife House have the skill, ability or willingness to take on the might of the senior levels of the council's hierarchy to protect our essential services?
