Letter: Secret service

JIM Craigen (Letters, 28 November) agrees with your leader of 24 November in complaining that Transport Scotland had heavily redacted requests for information in the public interest regarding the Edinburgh Trams fiasco.

Mr Craigen and the Labour Party members who sought answers should consider themselves lucky to have been given sight of anything at all from those secretive public servants at Transport Scotland.

When I tried to find out the rates of pay for the various grades of employees reimbursed on the £100 million contract awarded for the management of the new Forth crossing project I was refused on the grounds that this information was “environmentally sensitive”.

What’s more, our Freedom of Information tsar agreed that this was so.

Transport Scotland is only slightly less secretive about revealing its inner workings than the Freemasons.
