Letter: Scotch wrath

Burns never wrote one single line in Scots (your report, 5 November). To him Scots were the people of Scotland. Scotch was the name of his language and on that, "I'll pledge my aith in guid braid Scotch."

I challenge anyone to produce one single instance where Burns calls his language "Scots". Scotch is also the name of the language I have spoken all my life. It is the name given by all those Scots in central Scotland as shown by Sir James Wilson in his definitive study of their dialects.
