Letter: Scotch strengths

I have just read the letters by I Forde and D Purves (18 October). They really are a pair of chookies. They are complaining about the indifference of one group of Scots, while they themselves are busy trying to wipe from the face of the earth the very name of the traditional guid braid Scotch.

I cannot make up my mind whether they are traitors to my native tongue, or just a pair of ignoramuses. Anyone with even a slight knowledge of Scottish literature of, say, the 19th century, must have noticed the invariable use of the word "Scotch".

How can they expect a native speaker of real braid Scotch, like me, to give any support for their rubbish?
