Letter: Royal error

AS A summer student attending a course at the University of Edinburgh, I found Martyn McLaughlin's article on the Robert the Bruce sword being sold most readable and interesting (your report, 30 July).

Only one correction has to be made: James VI visited England from Scotland, but that was as early as in 1603, ie 100 earlier than Mr McLaughlin writes.

His arrival was as a result of Queen Elizabeth's death and Union of the Crowns.
