Letter: Royal DNA tests

Joan McAlpine's article on the Jacobites (26 October) reminds us how important to the monarchy is the principle of heredity.

Now that the science is available, there should be no difficulty in applying DNA testing to all future would-be monarchs to make sure that they are indeed entitled to reign over us.

Examples of the DNA of early Stuart kings can be obtained and compared with anyone who claims to be a legitimate heir to the throne.

That way we can be sure about just who it is we are being asked to bow down to.
