Letter: Rock chicks

Donald J Macleod's confirmation of the history of Rockall (Letters, 6 July) is interesting but it is unlikely that St Kildans, or any North Atlantic inhabitant, would travel to Rockall to harvest birds as the rock has never had any sizeable nesting populations.

There is no doubt that ancient mariners would have known of Rockall as an identifiable landmark.

The original article did not mention that Tom McClean spent a week there in 1985 in a prefabricated shed.
