Letter: Released foxes

Your story of a rescued fox which will be released back into the wild (14 May) came at the same time as we heard of the practice of rounding up city foxes and releasing them, too. This week we have lost six lambs.

The first was a triplet taken soon after birth, only 20 yards from my front door, with, typically, tail removed and face chewed off. The second, with the same signs, on the following morning, was the sibling. All the others were slightly further away.

This is the first year this has happened; the taking of live lambs was unheard of, as foxes have never come in so close before.

Is this the work of foxes which have lived in the city, used to foraging for food around houses? And what will happen to these foxes which kill live lambs?

They will be hunted down and shot.
