Letter: Reel in bonuses

IT HAS been reported that Allied Irish Banks will not pay bonuses to executives after Eire's finance minister threatened to stop state support for the bank if the money was paid out.

So their bluff has been called. The claim that the bank had a "legal" obligation to pay bonuses has been exposed as complete baloney. I note, too, that the Irish are going to impose a 90 per cent tax on future bonuses. That's what I call action. When will the British government do the same?
