Letter: Real benefits

FOR many years, those of us who are pro-UK have urged our fellow Scots to join us in the real world. We urged them to dump their Anglophobic grudges and Brigadoon fantasies and paranoid 19th century nationalism in the dustbin of history and join the rest of us in a modern, vibrant Scotland, a Scotland playing its full and integral part in Britain as we enter our fourth century of the most successful union of all time.

It gives me great pleasure, then, to see the eminent professor, Niall Ferguson, (11 March) urge his fellow Scots to '"get real'' and endorse what so many of us have been saying for so long.
