Letter: Pride of place

I read with interest the article on Edinburgh's New Town (14 March). As a tour guide, I always include the New Town in any tour, be it by coach or on foot. All my colleagues consider it to be an important part of Edinburgh's history and, in a modern context, a major centre of quality shopping and eating, both of which are important to tourists.

I find that tourists are not just interested in the Old Town, but are often as much interested in how the New Town has developed and how modern architecture is being integrated into it.

The main problem is that the New Town's virtues are not trumpeted enough by the tourist agencies, which appear blinkered by the Old Town and castle.
