Letter: Power struggle

Commenting on the potential £170 billion North Sea electricity supergrid, energy minister Jim Mather stated "a North Sea grid will plug Scotland in to export even greater amounts of clean, green energy", (your report, 4 December).

So, let me get this right: we are donating huge amounts of renewable subsidies to the landed gentry so that wind turbines can be imported in order for foreign electricity companies to make vast profits exporting electricity we do not need. In other words, other countries will enjoy clean, green energy without the inconvenience of despoiling their own countryside with massive wind farms.
