In the past 12 months, I have stayed in Edinburgh three times. I have paid 100 for a single room without breakfast in a worn-out, dirty hotel on Princes Street. At another capital hotel, owned by a well-known chain, I was charged 17.50 for breakfast. Is any fry up worth that?
If prices and service were more reasonable, then occupancy rates would rise. As with any capital city, Edinburgh is in demand as a venue throughout the year and the hotels have a virtual captive market. However, a four or five star rating does not necessarily mean a hotel has the service and quality to go with the grading.
