Letter: Politics of change

Nicola McEwen's article on further constitutional change (Perspective, 30 March) was interesting. She is certainly correct on one point - that the debate on further change has only taken place within the political and economic elite (and they can't seem to agree).

Whether further change is a good idea or not, I, like most others, don't know; the issues need to be debated publicly, and they won't be in an election, as there are too many other topics being discussed.

Perhaps Conservative MSP Margaret Mitchell has a point in saying that a referendum on further change, democratically, is a good idea. As an ordinary voter, change seems to be descending from on high.
