Letter: Policy to discard

AT LONG last the European Commission is to stop trawlermen discarding fish - a wasteful practice only introduced by the Scottish fleet to comply with Europe's complex and ridiculous rules on quotas.

Are we to believe that our trawlermen can now catch any fish they want and do the dangerous job they have to get fresh fish on our plates?

Not at all, as we can rely on the EC to introduce some new daft time at sea limits and further quota restrictions to make things even worse for what's left of the Scottish fleet.
