Letter: Police powers

Am I alone in thinking that turning eight police forces into one (your report, 8 April) would make one or two senior police chiefs very powerful men or women? There is a great danger in centralising power.

How would this be controlled? It is bad enough calling the police when there is a problem. Centralising police, ambulance and fire services are disasters waiting to happen.
