Letter: Police chase

I REFER to your article entitled “Panicked driver calls 999 over police tail”, which was published on 19 April.

I would like to make it clear that Strathclyde Police did respond to a request by your paper for a response to the Police Complaints Commissioner for Scotland (PCCS) report from which this story was taken.

We issued a response strongly refuting some of the intimations in the PCCS report.

However, The Scotsman failed to include this statement even in part.

The report did include a quote from a Detective Constable concerned, which was taken directly from the PCCS report and not issued by the force as an official response.

The PCCS report described the actions of police officers, who followed a car driving erratically through the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow early in 2011, as “without legal basis”.

We do not agree with this assessment.

At no point was this reflected in your article. I would suggest that not to include our point of view was neither fair, balanced or impartial.
