Letter: Peerless scandal

At a time when welfare cheats are being threatened with fines and other sanctions, and former Labour MPs are being prosecuted following the Commons expenses scandal, it seems odd that three peers of the realm are not being charged for allegedly defrauding the taxpayer of a total £200,000 (your report, 19 October).

Is this because their lofty position excludes them from the law of the land, or does their ethnicity mean that it is just too sensitive to pursue this matter further?
