Letter: Parking outrage

Jenny Hjul (Comment, 23 September) is far too lenient on Edinburgh Council over its plans to increase parking charges for drivers of "polluting" vehicles.

This has no conceivable relationship to stationary vehicles with engines switched off; in other words it does not qualify as a parking issue.

It is pure political correctness worthy of the most die hard communist regime, all enacted in the name of democracy, with the sole aim of producing increased income.

Councillors have no authority to influence people's choice of vehicle, above all by means of financial penalty, and I hope Edinburgh residents will them know that in no uncertain fashion.
