Letter: Over a barrel

The cost of fuel has reached record highs and is now changing the way we live our lives, with car journeys limited to essential work commitments, shopping trips and with weekend pleasure drives now a thing of the past.

For many living in Scotland there is no alternative but to pay up whatever the cost of fuel is as there is no public transport available, leaving the frail and elderly in a very vulnerable position, relying on friends and family to survive.

With the prospect of taxation on fuel being increased we can look forward to even harsher times ahead with fuel budgets exceeding food budgets in many homes.
