Letter: One in a million

THE unarguable need for fairness in the distribution of Honours is pointed out by Colin Weatherley (Letters, 30 November).

On that note, I have great difficulty in accepting the result of the “review” into the award of a knighthood to Brian Souter, feeling that many of the really pertinent issues in the award were not even examined.

Apparently, Sir Brian’s award was for “charity and service to the transport industry”. Considering his sister, Ann Gloag, has contributed at least as much to transport and charity – her laudable visits to Africa are well documented – one wonders why those responsible in Mr Salmond’s administration did not recommend her for a major honour.

It could not possibly be, could it, anything to do with the half a million reasons for recommending Brian Souter?
