Letter: Olympic cost

LORD Coe recently visited Glasgow on a day out from his London 2012 Olympic Committee chairman's office, where much attention is currently being given to acrimonious legal wrangling and financial litigation.

Away from his own contracting and consulting sidelines, the former athlete reminded us that the looming extravaganza is not just for the benefit of London and the South East of England, but for the whole of the United Kingdom.

However, the many venues listed for competition include only one in Scotland.

It appears that, despite Lord Coe's assurances, in return for the arbitrary plundering of substantial Scottish lottery funds over the past couple of years to help underwrite the soaring costs of next year's Olympic Games, Scotland has been rewarded by the staging of only one or two low-profile early-stage soccer matches at Hampden Park. Fair play?
