Letter: Numbers game

It may be eight months until polling day for Holyrood, but it seems the war between Labour and the SNP has already begun, judging by the letters (29 September) about who has the largest number of members and can therefore claim to be the biggest party in Scotland.

Aside from the fact this phoney war does seem rather like a spat between schoolboys over whose train set has the most carriages, Labour's claim that part of their membership is made up of "social club" members strikes me as rather dubious. I have in the past been a member of such a club and was neither a member of the party nor indeed a regular Labour voter.
