Letter: Note of interest

The report by Brian Ferguson, “Notes of Interest” (19 May), acknowledges the excellent and worthwhile contribution the Royal Bank of Scotland has made regarding the issue of bank-notes.

Without intending any retraction, I would respectfully ask your readers to note that the first £1 notes were issued by the Bank of Scotland in 1704 – actually shown as £12 Scots, but the equivalent to £1 in English money.
