Letter: Not the first lord

You are wrong in calling Lord Taylor of Warwick "the first black peer" in 1996 (your report, 21 January).

Sir Learie Constantine - the great cricketer, lawyer, politician and high commissioner - was the first, becoming Baron Constantine of Maraval in Trinidad and Tobago and of Nelson in the County Palatine of Lancaster in 1969.
