Letter: No fun at games

Having seen your picture of the children in Delhi working on the main games venue (your report, 23 September), I can't help but be dismayed by the sight of the overseer supervising these young boys with a stick in his right hand.

If I were one of the officials of the Scottish team, I would be pushing for a boycott of the games due to the use of child labour with what appears to be draconian methods.

In your report on conditions at the athletes' village in Delhi (24 September), one competitor is quoted as saying: "We're not expecting five-star accommodation and we're not going for a holiday."

Of course, she is absolutely right, but it is interesting to note that, in the same report, a coach to the hammer team tells us that he IS staying in a five-star hotel.

As well as lifting the odd hammer, I hope he is up to lifting what could be his own hefty hotel bill.
