Letter: No 'crisis' at SNP

Michael Fry's analysis (Opinion, 19 June) of Scotland's culture of Labour-inspired dependency was spot on. However , as an SNP member I take issue with his claim that the nationalist movement is somehow "in crisis". The SNP government remains popular and the party is currently selecting its candidates for next year's elections in as good a spirit as I have known in my ten years of membership.

Far from being "in crisis", the SNP is in buoyant and confident mood as Mr Fry, as a supporter of independence, would find if were to follow his instincts and join the party. Who knows, he might one day find himself a candidate himself, whereupon he could fight the dependency culture he rightly condemns.
