Letter: No change here

Vince Cable is expressing the anger, indignation and frustration of many people when he says banks have not got the message about their practices and the colossal bonuses they're about to award themselves (your report, 27 November).

But it's the general public who have not got the message: banks are bullies, indifferent to the chaos and pain they have caused and arrogant about it. They haven't changed, have no intention of so doing and why should they?

The government doesn't have the courage to challenge them. Dr Cable said: "We are beginning to discuss these issues with the banks." Beginning? They've been in power for months. Discuss? They should be directing them - we own them, for goodness sake.

The public might as well face it: our supine, mealy-mouthed politicians will stand by and wring their hands while bankers award themselves huge bonuses and laugh at the rest of us.
