Letter: Nice buy, but…

It is interesting to note in these days of hardship that someone has £3.7 million to splash out on a commode (your report, 9 December).

But I would point out that words such as "thought to be crafted" and "attributed to" is auction-house speak for "it's a nice piece but we have no idea where it comes from!" Provenence is all. In short, "caveat emptor".
