Letter: NHS drugs rip-off

Last week in Italy I had to consult a doctor, who prescribed a week's course of antibiotics which cost €1.50, approximately £1.20. This week I had to get, from my GP, a repeat prescription - the same antibiotic, same quantity, same maker, different wrapping - which she told me cost the NHS £5.20.

In this period of cuts, is it not time for the health minister to clamp down on this kind of rip-off of the NHS, and eventually of me, the tax-payer? No doubt there are cases where the price difference is much greater. How about it, Nicola?
