Letter: Nationalist view

I was interested in the res- ponses (Letters, 10 January) to my letter (8 January), and I will seek to address some of them. The notion that I claim ownership of Scotland is too puerile to bother with. Regarding the narrowness of my nationalism, I am a firm believer in the UN and the EU. I have lived in various countries and visited many more.

There is a view that I lack interest in this country's infrastructure, education and welfare. This is not the case. My desire is to see such matters under the control of a Scottish government. I also wish to see foreign affairs and finance under Scottish control.

With regard to begging bowls, are we currently handing our begging bowl to England? I believe that, if anything, the boot may be on the other foot. No-one should assume I have any wish to rebuild Hadrian's Wall, or vanish into a Celtic twilight.
