Letter: Myth of religion

Richard Lucas refers to "the Christian God of the Bible … incarnated as Jesus", (Letters, 18 September). The god of the Israelites was Jehovah; there was no "Christian God" in the Old Testament.

As for Jesus being an incarnation, that was an invention of the early church as it competed with contemporary saviour gods such as Mithras. Jesus himself would have been horrified at the idea; not even the Messiah was regarded as divine. All gods are human inventions and imaginary.
