Letter: Museum is a hit

It WAS encouraging to read that 22,000 people visited the refurbished National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street, Edinburgh, on the opening day on Friday (your report, 30 July).

This I thought, compared favourably with the 60,000 who during the first few days of it's opening, had to queue for two hours before gaining admission to the exhibition in Buckingham Palace featuring the Countess of Strathearn's wedding dress.

There is no prize for guessing which of these two venues was the most educational and informative. Another small point, entrance to the National Museum is free, but it will set you back 17.50 to see the wedding dress.
