Letter: Move due to sale

In his article "Kirk to sell historic training college" (19 May), Brian Donnelly has misrepresented the situation.

Since 1909 St Colm's College has trained thousands of people – of whom I am one – for missionary and diaconate service around the world. It is a separate entity from Scottish Churches World Exchange (SCWE).

The ecumenical partners he mentioned have been involved in SCWE since 1992 but not with the college as such. In 1909 it belonged to the United Free Church of Scotland and since 1929 to the Church of Scotland.

It is quite incorrect to assert that it is being sold because of the departure of SCWE. Quite the reverse is true. SCWE is leaving because the college building is being sold.
