Letter: Mortal remains

Stephen McGinty's piece on burial preferences (5 March) reminded me of a child fascinated by the box while leaving the present unexamined.

Our physical remains are not unimportant, and may have an emotional currency, but ultimately our bodies are temporary conduits of the soul - our true self.

The story of our earthly physical body is ultimately one of deterioration, death, then decomposition. I prefer to focus on my eternal existence with God instead.
