Letter: Money to save

The unions are screaming at the government over the various cuts it proposes to introduce and threaten to call strikes and bring disruption to the country, hurting all and sundry to justify their existence.

Neither they nor the government mentions the horrendous payments we make to the European Union - millions per month.

In practice this means that our people have to suffer hardship at the expense of supporting others well able to take care of themselves.

If David Cameron had as much spunk as Mrs Thatcher he would at least suspend our contributions until we had eased our own troubles. That would show true concern for our country and earn the support of the public in general.
