Letter: Model citizenship

YOU really have to admire the French president Nicolas Sarkozy: no sooner has his government approved "the bill to forbid concealing one's face in public" - or as it is informally called "ban the burka" - than he says he wants to revoke the French citizenship of immigrants who put the lives of police officers or other members of public authorities in danger. (your report, 31 July).

He said: "We are suffering from 50 years of lax immigration regulation, which has led to a failure of integration." Sounds very familiar. It is to be hoped that the British government will copy this idea and get tough on immigrants who break our laws, incite violence, demand Sharia law, preach hatred of Britain and who demonstrate against and abuse our soldiers.

Take away their citizenship and if they are not British citizens, we should take away their housing and welfare benefits. Oh dear is that a rustle of the Human Rights Brigade putting pen to paper?
